Paddle at Your Own Pace

Whether you're a novice or experienced paddler, there's a self-guided canoeing day trip perfect for your level of skill and interest. For light adventure, paddle to the base of Ragged Falls or ply your canoe through cottage country waterways to a beaver dam. Experienced canoers can go further and deeper into the backcountry. Whatever your style, you'll enjoy two nights comfortable accommodations at the inn plus delicious breakfasts featuring locally sourced ingredients. On your full day, drive over to the outfitters in Kearney or Oxtongue Lake for your canoe and map. End your day back at the inn, relaxing by a fire under the stars.

Waterfalls from Arrowhead to Algonquin Park

Explore the iconic Muskoka landscape with a self-guided tour of waterfalls and scenic spots from Arrowhead to Algonquin Park. Enjoy two nights at Fern Glen Inn and delicious breakfasts featuring locally sourced ingredients. On your full day, you'll get a hearty packed lunch, a one-day Provincial Parks Pass, plus directions for a self-drive tour of the natural gems of the region. Tour highlights include local favourite Brook's Falls, Stubb's Falls in Arrowhead Park, Ragged Falls and Algonquin Provincial Park. End your day back at the inn, relaxing by a fire under the stars.

Day Hike on the Seguin Trail

A hike along the Seguin Recreation Trail between Fern Glen Inn and the town of Sprucedale will take you through woods and meadows, past small lakes and marshes. It's a beautiful landscape that changes with the seasons, yet always intrigues and delights.

A former railway bed, the trail is now an easy, level path through wilderness that is inaccessible by car. On the approximately 13 km walk from Sprucedale, you may pass other hikers, cyclists or ATV enthusiasts. If you're lucky, you may even see deer, moose or other wildlife. As lovely as it is, we figure you'll only wish to hike it one way. That's why we're offering to drive you to Sprucedale so you can walk the trail back to the inn.

Free drop-off service is offered during the slow seasons for guests staying with us for two nights or longer. Advance notice requested; subject to availability.

Optional Extra

For an extra $15, we will provide some essentials for your day hike, conveniently packed in a knapsack for your use.
Essentials include:

Mini-Sabbatical Solo Retreatl

A peaceful retreat for the single traveller to relax, reflect and recharge.

This is the time for renewal! Treat yourself to a simple escape from the pressures of everyday life. Recharge your battery as you slow your pace and enjoy the tranquil sights and sounds of a country setting.

Whether walking through the woods or gazing deep into the starry sky, you'll find yourself inspired to make notes or sketches in the personal journal supplied for you. You won't even have to leave the inn. In addition to a freshly prepared breakfast to start your day, we'll provide a homestyle self-serve lunch and simple, delicious dinner for you as well. Enjoy your dinner served in the dining room or delivered to the guest lounge...whatever you prefer for a perfect retreat.

Enjoy a dog sledding excursion, a hearty chili dinner* and comfortable accommodations in a winter wonderland setting.
Spend the night in cozy comfort, then fuel your day with an abundant breakfast before heading over to the ranch to begin your adventure. Mush through a beautiful wilderness landscape behind your team of huskies during a half- or full-day guided dog sled excursion. After working up an appetite out on the trails, head back to the inn for a dinner of hearty beef or vegetarian chili and homemade cornbread served hot from the skillet.
